Users can into Free Skype WiFi location through Skype ID
Microsoft-owned Skype has launched a new WiFi network initiative in collaboration with wireless services provider Wicoms, known as Free Skype WiFi, which will be launched in the UK and Ireland.
According to Wicoms, the new Free Skype WiFi will enable the Skype users to log in to any participating Free Skype WiFi location in the UK and Ireland with their Skype ID through the Skype WiFi app.
After getting connected, users can use the free Wi-Fi offered by Wicoms to browse the web, connect with social media, access and send emails, shop, evaluate prices and download special deals from the involved high street retailers.
Skype Access programme manager Shadi Mahassel said: "Our partnership with Wicoms enhances our ability to make Skype universally accessible and expands on our WiFi strategy, which today provides paid WiFi access at over one million locationsworldwide."
Free Skype WiFi is also expected to offer businesses with the chance to connect directly with consumers on-premise by using their mobile phones.
Wicoms managing director Owen Geddes said by working with Skype to provide Free Skype WiFi on-premise, business owners and high street retailers can open a dialogue with potential customers and encourage sales conversion with the power of the mobile phone.
"We're helping brick and mortar retailers effectively compete with online retailers," Geddes said.
