New guidelines to do away with generic look
Google has now taken cognisance of the fact that when Android was launched, the apps were not special while the UI looked generic and ordinary.
To address these issues, it has launched a portal to guide developers to help them build a better UIs for an app, which centre around sound design principles.
The team behind Android 4.0 has worked in that direction to help the developers with tips on iconography, patters, colors, typography and writing styles that are recommended.
It is believed that a written set of principles would serve as an able guideline for Android developers which will allow for a continuity across apps in terms of both design and functionality.
Google's Director of Android user experience Matias Duarte said there was no compulsion in following the guidelines, but the developers are likely to abide, once they know the apps.
After several versions of Android that lacked charm unlike that of an iOS and others, this move is seen as an attempt at giving a new dimension to Android developers for bettering UI design.
