Facebook is planning to build a new cold storage data centre in Prineville, US to archive old photos, videos and posts which users don't regularly access.
The new centre will be the company's third data centre.
Facebook communication manager, Michael Kirkland, said the process will slow response time.
"The principle will be so that it doesn't impact the user experience -- so think about a matter of seconds, or milliseconds," Kirkland said.

The social networking company is planning to commence starting the storage facility during fall 2013.
